O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright
stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bomb bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that
our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
I love the 4th of July.  I love getting together with my family and friends, eating too much and watching fireworks.  But mostly, I love America.  My family prepares for our country’s birthday the same as we do for all of our favorite holidays: by decorating our holiday tree and reading a ton of books.

The Rocket’s Red Glare

Written by Peter Alderman and illustrated by Bea Moritz, The Rocket’s Red Glare is a wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated account of the night that provided the inspiration for the Star Spangled Banner.  It takes us on a journey of the battle on the Chesapeake Bay through the eyes of Francis Scott Key, the author of the poem.  I hope you enjoy the reading of The Rocket’s Red Glare
